Cynthia Tung, M.D.
Cynthia Tung, M.D., is a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Cataract Surgeon, and Ocular Immunology, Inflammation and Uveitis Specialist. Dr. Tung received her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB)-Galveston. She completed a fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery followed by an additional fellowship in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammation at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Tung sees patients in need of routine and complex medical, laser and surgical eye care. She provides eye exams for cataracts, as well as eye exams for retinal disease, such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and regular eye health, and comprehensive ophthalmology needs.
She is a specialist in graft versus host disease (GvHD), uveitis and inflammatory diseases of the eye, ocular surface disease and dry eye problems. Dr. Tung has special interest in laser cataract surgery and vision correction after cataract surgery with advanced lens implants, including toric lens implants, to correct astigmatism and near vision presbyopia correcting cataract lens implants to help cataract surgery patients eliminate their dependence on eyeglasses, reading glasses and bifocals.
Prior to joining our practice, Dr. Tung served as an Assistant Professor, Department of Head and Neck Surgery in the Division of Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She continues her academic and research interests by serving as an editorial reviewer for the journals Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation, Nature, The Ocular Surface, American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO), Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS) and Translational Vision Science & Technology.
Dr. Tung is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) and the International Ocular Surface Society (IOSS).
